Amblyopia also called as lazy eye is a disorder in which the affected eye does not function properly. The affected eye look normal in appearance but has poor vision. This is because the co-ordination between the eye and brain is affected. There are two treatment options for ambylopia - patching and topical atropine drops. In patching the healthy eye is covered for few hours with a patch and the affected eye is forcefully used. This stimulates the co-ordination between the brain and affected eye. In second method vision in normal eye is temporarily blurred by instilling atropine drops so that the brain uses affected eye to focus. The sooner the condition is treated the better is the outcome.
