How can i increase level of hdl (good) cholesterol?
  • By Team TDO

Certain changes in lifestyle can have a positive impact on raising HDL levels: 1.Aerobic exercise 2.Weight loss 3. Smoking cessation 4.Removing trans fatty acids from the diet 5. Mild to moderate alcohol intake 6.Adding soluble fiber to diet 7. Using supplements such as omega 3 fish oil or flax oil 8. Increasing intake of cis-unsaturated fats and cholesterol, decreasing intake of trans-fats. Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet, which includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish, vegetables, poultry, and egg whites. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oils or polyunsaturated oils such as corn, safflower, soy, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean oils. Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods.
