Performance anxiety– Looking for a way out?
- By Team TDO
Performance anxiety is a problem more commonly faced by men.
The fear or anxiety of performing accurately during intercourse affects male sexuality in a number of ways. Mostly this is psychological.
A person troubled by performance anxiety will in all probability, avoid sexual interactions, have relationship issues, suffer from sexual dysfunction and have a lowered self-esteem. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts, where the person assumes and predicts his own sexual failure and thus experiences just that.
One failure leads to next; and each sexual encounter that follows is marred by the memory of prior failures. This results in the affected person avoiding sexual activity altogether , which in turn leads to intimacy and relationship issues.
Performance anxiety may further hamper sexual arousal and may even lead to loss of erection, but, the crippling loss of self-esteem is the most dreadful side-effect.
However, every problem has a solution.
When it comes to performance anxiety, consulting a sex psychologist or a ‘sexpert’ who has adequate experience in this particular area, often proves beneficial..
