How to put on a condom

  • By Team TDO

To be effective against STIs and pregnancy, a condom must be put on before there is any contact between his penis and your genitals. If you feel uncomfortable handling them, practice rolling on a condom using a cucumber or zucchini to make it easier when you are in the throes of passion. And remember to only use condoms that have been properly stored in a cool dry place, and that have not passed the expiration date printed on the package.

To use one, carefully open the package, making sure to keep long fingernails and teeth from damaging the condom. Inspect the condom to see if it is dry, sticky, or brittle, in which case it should be discarded. Unroll the condom a little bit and place a few drops of water-based lubricant inside the tip to increase his sensitivity and pleasure. Next place the condom over the head of his penis, slowly unrolling it down the shaft. If he is not circumcised, pull his foreskin back as you roll. Make sure that you leave a little bit of space at the top of the condom to catch his sperm. Some condoms have a special reservoir tip designed for this purpose. Apply water-based lubricants to the outside of the condom and inside your vagina or anus to prevent breakage and make sex more pleasurable for you and your partner.

As soon as he ejaculates, his penis must be withdrawn. If you wait, his penis may become soft and the condom can slip off, releasing semen. As he withdraws his penis, hold the condom at the base of his penis. Discard the condom immediately following sex. If you have intercourse again, a new condom must be used.
